After reading Miss Alaineus: A Vocabulary Disaster, Mrs. Hanneman and I challenged the 4th and 5th graders to choose a challenging word to learn and portray for our 1st annual Vocabulary Parade!  The goal was for the kids to learn some challenging words to start incorporating into their writing. 1st Quarter Business Day

Our first Business Day of the school year is under our belts!  It was a huge success!

As part of our classroom economy system, students are given the option of opening their own business as an extra source of income.  All goods must be homemade.  This has proven to be a very lucrative undertaking!  The kids and parents/teachers all enjoy this quarterly event.

Here are some shots of the kids from this morning...

Mass: 10/4

Once again, I was a proud teacher this morning.  The Jungle Crew did an AWESOME job in mass.  They were poised, and I was impressed.

Introducing...

Ella was chosen as our first Jungle Superstar this week!  She was chosen for many reasons, but I was most impressed with her Christian attitude toward her peers and her desire to always do her personal best!

Our Facebook wall is currently devoted to Ella.  Her classmates posted on her "wall" where they wrote compliments or congratulatory wishes.  Ella has pictures on display, as well.

Congratulations, Miss Ella!

Daily 5...finally!

The Daily 5 language arts stations are up and running in the Jungle!  My goal is to allow time for the kids to visit 2-3 stations 3 days per week this year.  They are enjoying the flexibility and collaborative aspect that these learning centers bring to the classroom setting.  I snapped a few pics of the kids working this morning.

These students are playing a word study concentration game in our Working with Words station.

The Read to Self station allows for independent reading time.  Normally, this time is devoted to self-selected novels.

This group is listening to the novel, Hoot, in our Listen to Reading station.

These students are playing a partner inferencing game focusing on the comprehension strategy.  In addition to the five stations, I also incorporate a 6th station that is focused on the strategy we are learning.

This students is busy creating her heart map in our Working on Writing station.

Our Read to Someone station allows for the kids to read with a partner.
